Holy Week is the week leading up to the important Christian festival of Easter, beginning on Palm Sunday, including Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The Home Valley Churches have a number of opportunities for pilgrims to walk the way of Christ. The journey begins on Palm Sunday at 11am outside Christ Church and we walk … Continue reading “Holy Week”
The second concert in the 2016 music @ Christ Church series took place on February 27th. With England vs Scotland rugby on TV, and the Mrs. Sunderland final concert in the Town Hall, a guitar concert was bound to feature low on some priorities. Nevertheless an appreciative audience enjoyed the wide range of pieces played … Continue reading “Guitar Duo perform at Christ Church”
Eve and John are this year’s Junior Church joint Representatives, and as the JC Reps have traditionally done, they will arrange a series of social events with the additional purpose of raising funds for charity. music @ Christ Church’s first concert of 2016 was a matinee presentation of Viennese music. Band members dressed appropriately for a Viennese concert, and this helped to set the atmosphere. Christ Church held its annual bonfire party on the evening of Remembrance Sunday, when the rain stopped just in time for the planned start. A good-sized crowd turned out, hot dogs, baked potatoes and parkin were downed voraciously and an absolutely superb firework display was enjoyed – all before the rain came back!
The British Legion service of Remembrance at Christ Church elicited a full church – all seats taken downstairs with some standing, and the galleries full too. Revd Canon Sean Robertshaw led the service, the music was led by Hepworth Band with Christ Church’s choir. The uniformed services were well represented, and the service was followed … Continue reading “New Mill Remembers”
